MAFB is a community that shares a concept driven energetic innovative outlook on fashion, art, design and cultural identity. It was founded in 2008, and since 2014 it is run solely by me. With MAFB I give different fashion and art communities a platform to communicate and innovate.
The main project of MAFB is fashion fest. The fashion fest is a co–creation between MAFB and the Research Center for Material Culture. The annual fest celebrates cultural heritage and is a battlefield for creativity that accommodates and coaches young talents (18-30 years old) operating within the four disciplines of fashion design, hairstyling, make-up and modelling.
Over the course of the program, all participants form an interdisciplinary team to co-create a catwalk show that is inspired by the museum’s collection. The participants visit the archives of the Tropenmuseum, receive personal coaching sessions, and join several masterclasses to help develop their talent and vision on a theme.
Every first Sunday of December, the teams present their work on the Tropenmuseum catwalk at the Grande Finale in front of an expert jury. They will judge all the contestants and a winner from each discipline will be announced during the final presentation in the Lichthal of the Tropenmuseum.
